HP Supports Disabled American Veterans in Benefit Outreach Efforts
Posted on Wednesday, July 28 2010 - 14:37:09 EDT

Hewlett Packard PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--HP (NYSE: HPQ) today announced it has committed technology equipment and support to the nonprofit organization Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and its fleet of Mobile Service Offices (MSOs) that operate on the front line of benefit outreach efforts for veterans.
The DAV’s MSO vehicles travel nationwide to local communities to help disabled veterans and their families gain access to veteran benefits. The fully functional mobile offices, equipped with HP notebooks and printers, allow DAV National Service Officers – themselves disabled veterans – to remotely process compensation, pension and medical claims for disabled veterans and their widows and to assist disabled veterans in navigating their continuing education options.

“This sponsorship is going to help us do amazing things for veterans,” said Arthur H. Wilson, adjutant and chief executive officer, DAV National. “It improves our technological capabilities and empowers us to go even further in helping veterans obtain the benefits they’ve earned as a result of their service and sacrifices. We’re grateful for HP’s generous sponsorship and excited to put these incredible tools and resources to work serving disabled veterans and their families.”

As the DAV celebrates its 90th anniversary, it continues to assist nearly a quarter of a million veterans and their families each year. The MSO fleet has enabled the DAV to expand its outreach to more than 700 underserved areas. The distinctive-looking and well-equipped “offices on wheels” help to eliminate the long trips some veterans in smaller towns and rural communities must take to initiate the claims process.

“With more than 3 million disabled veterans in America, dedication, resolve and the right technology resources are vital components to reach those in need and make a difference,” said Stephen DeWitt, senior vice president and general manager, Personal Systems Group, HP. “We are supporting the DAV through technology improvements that will assist more disabled veterans in getting the benefits they’ve earned.”

Yesterday, HP hosted an MSO stop at its Bethesda, Md., offices to see first hand the work the DAV is accomplishing.

Additional information about the MSO and its tour schedule is available at www.dav.org. Additional information about HP’s government offerings is available at http://government.hp.com.
